Attracting more than 50,000 spectators, the annual Far Hills Race Meeting in Somerset County, attracts the best steeplechasers in the world to compete for the Breeder’s Cup Grand National title. Held at the Moorland Farms, the Race Meet offers the highest purse, $300.000, on the National Steeplechase Association circuit. Dating back to 1899, the Grand National is one of the oldest races in steeplechasing and one of the most important outside Europe

The race is known for its esteemed tradition of elaborately catered tailgating parties. Family and friends host reunions, and company’s host parties marking the day with lavish feasts.

The Race Meet has supported the programs and services of one of New Jersey’s health care facilities, Somerset Medical Center in Somerville for 53 years. Since the 1950’s the Far Hills Race Meeting Association has donated more than $17 million to the medical center.
